The Treaty Of Waitangi
The Treaty of Waitangi is a founding document that was signed on February 6th 1840. It was signed so that the British and Maori people can have peace between each other.
During the second half of the 19th century, Maori really lost control of the land they had owned. The New Zealand government mostly ignored the Treaty and a court case judgement in 1877. Waitangi day was established as a national Holiday in 1974 which reminds us of the signing of the Treaty.
Kia Ora, Rhonda, you have listened and participated in discussions about the Treaty of Waitangi and expressed you interpretation.
