Galapagos Islands!

My group and I were learning about the Galapagos Islands. Galapagos is a very hot island because it is very close to the Equator Line.
This is what I have learnt so far about Galapagos Island:
  • In Galapagos island there are so many creatures and animals that live there, like big turtles, blue-footed boobies, red-footed boobies, seals, Iguanas, fire ants, birds, crabs and many more.
  • In 1973, workers were sent to Pita Island to get rid of goats because they were destroying a lot of plants.
  • Sea lions live on almost every island, which will be really cool to see a lot of sea lions.
  • Galapagos means tortoise in old Spanish.
How do I feel about all the tortoises getting killed?
I feel heartbroken because if all the tortoises were killed they will be extinct.
Lonesome George:
  • Lonesome George is a Male tortoise and was the only tortoise to survive about years ago.

Dictation-Atitude

The longer I live the more I realise the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude to me, is more important than facts, it is more then the past, then education, then money, then circumstances, then failures, then success, then what other people think or say or do.
It is more important appearance giftedness or skills.
It will make or brake accompany...a church...a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.
We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We only change the envitable.
The only thing we can do is to play on one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it, and so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitude.

  • They poured water over the whales to keep them alive.
  • The local people placed a lot of towels over the whales to keep them wet at all times.
  • Most whales were able to make it into the water because the local people were able to drag or push them into the water.

Should fishermen be banned(stopped)?
  • Yes, fishermen should be banned from Farewell Spit because if the whales are being killed everyday by fishermen’s net, then they will end up in extinction.

Wild Eyes!

Day 3
Activity one: Choose an animal to adopt/Explain a little bit about them:

The animal I Chose was a tuatara.
About them:
  • Tuatara are reptiles.
  • Tuatara eats other insects and bugs.
  • They normally live in small dark caves in forests and they are used to the warm temperature.

Activity two: Why we should or not kill all predators (Possums)?
I agree that possums should be taken away because if the possums destroys all the trees in New Zealand, then there won’t be any left. But, I still think that they shouldn’t be killed, instead they should be trapped and taken away.

Bonus:

Wow! I just found an egg that belongs to a large bird!

New Zealand by Land and Sea

Day 2
Activity one: Three places I enjoyed/Why?:

  • I mostly enjoyed driving past Rangitoto because you can see birds flying and ships passing by very slowly.
  • I enjoy sitting on Karekare beach feeling so relieved and calm as I hear the waves crash onto the shore.
  • Last but not least, my family and I got to take a quiet walk at Tane Mahuta.
Dear Diary,
I had the most amazing time of my life exploring beaches, forests and much more. But, most of all driving past Rangitoto was even better because they're a lot things to experience.

Activity two: My Interview questions with Laura:

  • How old were you when you began sailing?
  • What else do you do apart from sailing?
  • Who encouraged you to sail around the world?
  • Is sailing important to you?
  • Was there a reason you went sailing by yourself?

Bonus: 5 activity’s one of my family member enjoys in the outdoor:

  • Visiting the Matariki light trail in Glen Innes, Auckland.
  • Enjoys playing at the park with his mates.

Technicraft!

Screenshot 2017-05-29 at 10.27.59 AM.pngIt was Thursday and Room 8 and I were heading to tech. As we arrived we rapidly went to our tech class. Mr Nair told us to grab our work that we started from last week so that we could finish it off.

We were taught by Mr Nair how to use a scroll saw. We practised cutting a thin piece of wood with shapes on it so that we won’t get any mistakes on our actual work.

I finally practised and it was time for me to cut out the sides of my character. As I began cutting it was hard but then it became easier at the end. I have finally finished and I had to give my work to Mr Nair so that he could spray it. He placed a magnet at the back of our character so that it would be like a fridge magnet. I was finally done and I was ready to make another fridge magnet again.

I had a great time during tech. My favourite part of the day was cutting out the cardboard because it was hard and fun at the same time.

Learning Intention: We are learning to inform my audience what we did in technicraft.

The Easter Candle!

Technicraft!

Combining my art work with technology!
Today’s learning was about technology. Mr Nair, gave each table a laptop, because we were going to research our favourite cartoon character or singer and transform it into a magnet. We chose our photo and sent it to Mr Nair, so that he could print it out.

My favourite character that I was going to do was Lisa Simpson. After that, we were to grab a medium size piece of cardboard and draw our picture onto the cardboard, but a bigger version. Then we used a cardboard burner to burn the outlines of our drawing.

Later, we were to grab a painting tray and our choice of paint to use in our picture. The colours I I used were, white for the necklace, orange for her dress and yellow for her skin and hair. As I began to paint, I was struggling because it was difficult to manipulate and control the paint on the brush, and it kept getting paint in the wrong place.  It was necessary to repeat the painting to improve the quality of my work.

Do you like to surf?

Wow! I can't believe we met Katie Glynn!

St Patrick's school had a special visitor named Katie Glynn. Katie Glynn is a hockey player. Katie is 28 years old and her birthday is on March 14 1989. Katie started playing hockey in 2009 when she was 19 years old. She competed in the New Zealand’s national field hockey team.  Katie is now retired due to back injury and works as a coach. One of Katie’s best friends is Richie Mccaw’s wife whose name is Gemma Mccaw. Katie showed us some pictures and two videos of her playing hockey in some of the tournaments. She also showed us a video of her scoring the last goal in her last hockey game. Everyone began to clap after she showed us the video. We were able to ask her some questions. We asked her so many questions that we couldn’t stop.

After that, we said, ‘‘Thank you!’’ to Katie for coming to our school and went back to class. Her last advice to us was to Dream Big!

We are learning to write a recount of what we learnt about Katie Glynn.

Respect your parents!

Did you know that each of the seasons have a colour?

In our science class we were learning about solid, liquid and gas. Miss Gawith, our science teacher gave each table two chrome books because she wanted us to go on a site with some science games on it.

On the first game that we played, we had to do experiences and answer questions that was related to solid, liquid and gas. I had a great time playing the science game and learning about heat because it was fun.

Low tide!

Image result for mudflatsI walked beside you
Across mudflats in
my blue gumboots,
Over crackling oyster
Shells, green ribbed pipi,
The traces of wading birds.
When the tide is out, what lies exposed:
River threads of mud, old brown stones,
Tiny muscles yet to grow,
My sole prints left
on the ocean’s
bones.
