Experiment 1: Magic Milk

Materials:
  1. Food Colouring
  2. Squirt of Detergent
  3. Saucer
  4. Eyedropper
  5. 50 mls Milk
Method:
  1. Pour 50mls milk into the saucer.
  2. Drop food colouring in different spots of the saucer.
  3. Put some dish soap into the milk.
  4. Observe what happens.
Hypothesis:
Rhonda: I think that the colours will be mixed in together.
Soane I think when in put the three colours into the
milk nothing will happen but when we put the
detergent in with milk and the colours, the colours will spread.
Results:
Rhonda: My hypothesis was correct because the
reaction that was caused with the milk and
detergent made the colours mix together.
Soane: My hypothesis was correct. I saw that
a tiny squirt of detergent will cause a reaction with the milk.
Colours added into different corners of the milk.
Detergent combined with the milk and the food colouring.

Last day of tech!

Today the Year 8’s from Saint Patrick’s School went to Pakuranga Intermediate for Technicraft.

The art room smelt like paint because there were different coloured paints poured out  on the pieces of paper where Mr.B was standing. We all began by talking about tones because we were going to paint our city landscape with the paint we wanted to use into light, medium and a dark colours.

Mr.B showed us how to make a tone with the colour orange. He took two scoops of orange with his paintbrush and placed it with the white paint colour and mixed it all up. It gave us a light orange. He painted one building. Then he added another two scoops of the orange colours to the same mixture so that it would give a bit of a darkish colour. He painted the second landscape. He mixed another two scoops so that the orange colour can become even more darker. The buildings were shaded with light, medium and dark colours of orange.

The skills that I learnt in art is how to blend colours together and what tint and tones are. Tint are colours that are mixed in with grey to become a dark-ish colour. Tones are colours that are mixed in with white to become a light colour.

Astria: Prompt 3

On a scale of 1-5, how successfully did you problem solve with your partner today?
On a scale of 1-5, I would rate a 5 because I was communicating very well with my partner and it was very easy to work with her. I would prefer that it would be better that we worked alone because it was very easy to work with a partner and it would be better to work alone so that it can be a bit more challenging. My partner and I managed to complete two of our missions and we had had a lot of fun problem solving together.

Astria - Prompt 2

Top 5 things to let you know if any news information you read is fake or not.
1.Check other news articles
You will know if a news article is fake by searching for other articles on the internet and checking if the news you have read is the same with the one you have searched up.
2. Sources
The article can be fake if the person who wrote it doesn't say where the article came from or who wrote it.
3. Spelling
Check if there are any spelling mistakes or if the sentences does not make sense. If this does happen, the article can be fake.
4. Sketchy Articles
If an article does not have enough evidence to backup their information then the article is fake.
5. Recycled News
You will know if the article is fake when you read some articles of the same event and one of the article has a change to it, it means that the article is fake.

Astria: Prompt 1

A student in another school has recently blogged that:
“Students don’t learn much playing this game called Astria – Countdown to Impact: Their time could be better spent doing other things”.
Do you agree, disagree or partly agree/disagree?

I disagree that student's don't learn much from this game because this game helps us to read more, problem solve and it helps us to think critically about the problem we are solving.

What does God desire for his people?

The Earth's Spheres!

Atmosphere
The Atmosphere is the gases (Air) that is
surrounding us.
Biosphere
Biosphere is all the living this that is
surrounding us. Including Trees and Plants.
Hydrosphere
Hydrosphere is the part of the Earth
where there is water.
Geosphere
Geosphere is land and all the small minerals.

Sunlight
This is probably the most important need for
all living organisms, because it is the source of
all energy. It also provides heat for plants and animals
Water
Water is the medium in which living cells and tissue
work. Water is also a living environment for many
plants and animals
Air
Air is made up of several gases, but the two mos
t important gases are Oxygen and Carbon dioxide.
Without oxygen, animals will die, and without
carbon dioxide, plants cannot survive.
Food
Living things need energy for function. Energy is needed
to grow, reproduce, move, and to work. Think of what will
Image result for earth's ecosystem
happen if you stayed for three days without food.

The Earth’s Spheres Biosphere, Geosphere,
Atmosphere and Hydrosphere all work
together to create an ecosystem, including
Forest, River, Grassland, Tundra, Desert and
Taiga. These ecosystems are all made up by the
Earth’s Spheres.

My First Roller Coaster Ride!

Title: My First Roller Coaster  Ride
Orientation
It was sunny morning. As I jumped out of
bed and looked up at the ceiling I felt a
cold shiver run down my body. I felt
terrified and excited at the same time
to ride on a roller coaster, it was my
first time after all.  I was 10 years old,
and was finally tall enough to meet the
height restrictions for the ride. My Dad
took me and my sisters to the Fair and
we all waited in line.
Complication

At that time, I was imagining riding the
roller coaster,  a terrible thought washed
through my head about vomiting.
I couldn’t take my mind off that, so I
tried to think of something that would
help me not to vomit while on the roller
coaster, but it also did not help me.
I felt very distressed and helpless,
I did not know what to do. This was
a big problem for me. My face turned
red and I began to feel really hot
because of the stress that I was in,
I knew from past experience that
feeling like this was probably going
to MAKE ME SICK!
Resolution
It was almost time, there were
only a couple of people in front
of us. Looking at the roller coaster,
I had butterflies so I asked my sister’s,
“Could you give me some tips to help
me not to stress out”?. They told me
that the best way is to try and relax
but to also have fun at the same time.

It was finally our turn, I climbed into
the chair and I sat down, Then off
we went. I felt very relaxed. As I
breathed in Whoosh! The air made
my whole body shiver, running past
my face and my ears almost like I
was making a funny face. I felt a bit
dizzy, But it didn’t ruin my fun.

As we came to the end of the ride,
I quickly got out of the roller coaster.
I raced to get a drink of water just in
case I was going to vomit, but
it turned out for me that I didn’t vomit at all.
Ending
I was so happy that I finally took
a chance to ride on a roller coaster.
I can’t wait for another chance for me
to take another ride -  so that I would
be able to get used to riding on a roller coaster.

Farmers Sheep

I began by adding 3 sheep's on each corners. Then I separated each sheep and added it to each square. I had to rearrange all the sheep's formation so that the farmer would be able to see all 25 sheep from each window of his house.

Problem:
A farmer can see nine sheep if he looks out of any of his four windows. His wife buys him a new sheep. Which paddock would the new sheep can be put in so he can see nine sheep from each of his window.

Candle Observation

In our science class, my partner Faith and I did an experience that included heat energy. Each table were given a candle, matches and a wet table cloth. First we wiped the table with the wet table cloth so that there won’t be any stains on the table if the candle tips over. Then we lit the candle away from our body so that we won’t burn ourselves. We had to observe the colours and the heat that came out from the flame that was lit.
